On June 27, 2024, the 21st China International Housing Industry & Building Industrialization Products and Equipment Expo ("Housing Expo") opened at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. Xinyang Human Settlements Technology made its debut at the Expo with a thematic exhibition area focusing on the "Four Good Construction" initiative. Ni Hong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, led a delegation to observe and provide guidance at the Xinyang exhibition area, commending and encouraging the city's innovative practices in developing the human settlements technology industry, piloting future urban and rural communities, and advancing the "Four Good" construction in recent years. Xinyang Party Secretary Cai Songtao, relevant municipal leaders, Li Xiang, Chief Advisor of the Xinyang Municipal Government and President of the SUC Institute, and Guo Xingtian, National People's Congress representative of Xinyang and Chairman of Wanhua Ecology, accompanied the delegation throughout the exhibition and attended various activities of the Housing Expo.
Under the theme "Quality Housing, Quality Life, New Technologies, New Momentum," this housing expo showcases regional achievements in the "Four Good" initiative and technological innovation. The 500-square-meter Xinyang exhibition hall features four key sections: "Xinyang Model Urban Area – Yangshan New District", "Xinyang Exemplary Residential Communities–Future Urban-Rural Models", "Xinyang Innovative Housing Solutions-Practical Achievements and Wanhua's Formaldehyde-Free Home Furnishings" and "Xinyang Smart Living Technologies–Development Progress and Green Home Industry Investment." Through immersive VR experiences and physical exhibits, visitors can engage with Xinyang's cutting-edge living technologies and the innovative outcomes of its "Four Good" program.
After the opening ceremony, Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong led a delegation on a tour and made a special trip to the Xinyang exhibition zone. He enthusiastically visited various sections, including the Xinyang Urban-Rural Future Community, "Good House" projects, and "Human Settlements Technology Practices." He listened attentively to the exhibits and frequently asked questions about the pilot construction model of Xinyang's future communities, supporting infrastructure development, the current state of the human settlements technology industry, and the market prices of "formaldehyde-free" customized home decoration. Secretary Cai Songtao and accompanying staff provided detailed explanations and answers. As the exhibition drew to a close, Minister Ni continued to ask questions and praise Xinyang's innovative practices, exclaiming, "They've captured the market with vast potential!"
After the conclusion of the China International Housing Expo (CIHE) touring exhibition, Xinyang City, as the sole provincial-level city representative nationwide, attended the opening forum. Yu Haizhong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, delivered a speech and signed the "Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Jointly Promoting the 'Four Good' Construction and Human Settlements Technology Industry Development" with the Science and Technology and Industrialization Development Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on behalf of the Xinyang Municipal Government. This marks a significant step forward in deepening future collaboration in the field of human settlements in Xinyang.
Since July 2021, commissioned by the Xinyang Municipal Party Committee and Government, SUC Institute has been officially appointed as the full-process consulting agency for Xinyang Future Human Settlements Science City and urban-rural future community development. Li Xiang, President of SUC Institute and founder of the SUC Programme Management Center, has also been appointed as the Chief Advisor of Xinyang Municipal Government.
In December 2021, the Xinyang Municipal Government and SUC Institute jointly held the first "China (Xinyang) Habitat Technology and Better Life Forum", which was the first in the country to propose the urban transformation and development path of "vigorously developing the habitat technology industry, accelerating the pilot of future urban and rural communities, and jointly building a future habitat science city". The SUC team also officially completed the "Xinyang Future Habitat Science City Construction Strategic Development Plan" and the "Xinyang Urban and Rural Future Community Construction Pilot Implementation Plan", which were released for the first time at the conference. This marked the beginning of a new path for the revolutionary old area of Xinyang to drive "new industrialization" with "new urbanization", support the "Four Goods" construction with the "habitat technology industry", and accelerate the realization of "Two Better" with the "Four Goods" construction.
Since 2022, with full-process consulting from SUC Institute and support from Henan Province, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and China Association for Science and Technology, Xinyang City has attracted investments from leading human settlement technology enterprises and research institutions—including Wanhua Ecology, Xiaomi Technology, Hangxiao Steel Structure, MingYang Smart Energy, CP Group, and the Provincial Academician Workstation for Big Home—through over two years of persistent exploration. The city has successfully developed pilot projects like Yangshan Beautiful Future Community, Gugang Future Community, Hejiachong Future Community, Haotang Future Community, and Dongyue Future Community, establishing a complete industrial chain, standardized framework, and model units for "quality housing" construction. These efforts have created innovative benchmarks for "exemplary neighborhoods, communities, and urban districts," along with comprehensive platforms such as the "Future Human Settlements Technology Exhibition Hall" and "Rural Construction Expo Park" for showcasing and promoting these advancements.
From October 2022 to October 2023, at the invitation of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Xinyang City successively attended the global main event of the 2022 "World Urban Day", the 2023 "China Housing Expo", and the 2023 "World Urban Day" China main event, where it delivered speeches and presentations on the theme of "Future Human Settlements" to domestic and international audiences.
From November 2023 to May 2024, at the invitation of the SUC Institute, Liu Xinfeng, Director of the Science and Technology Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Lai Ming, Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and former Vice Chairman of the Jiusan Society, led delegations to Xinyang for a thematic research and workshop. They highly commended Xinyang's innovative practices and achievements in the field of future human settlements.
With the successful conclusion of the 2024 "China Home Expo" series of exhibitions and forums, the innovative practices and achievements of Xinyang, an old revolutionary base area, in developing the human settlement technology industry, accelerating the pilot of "future communities" in urban and rural areas, and solidly carrying out the "four good" construction have increasingly attracted widespread attention and recognition from relevant national ministries and various sectors at home and abroad.
How can underdeveloped central regions pursue 'green rise', and how can revolutionary old areas accelerate the realization of 'two better'?
