The selection of “SUC international demonstration cities and communities” is done by experts from the UN agencies and SUC experts team based on the SUC Guidelines. It aims to encourage local governments and community developers in building demonstration cities and communities of sustainable development based on the international standards, and help implement the 11th goal “making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” of the UN 2030 Agenda. With such practices, China could share its experience with other developing countries.
The UN SUC Guidelines will be fully introduced into selected pilot zones of the SUC Guidelines for Sustainable Cities and Communities. The SUC authoritative expert team will compile the “International Indicator System and Strategy Report on Sustainable Development” based on the status quo of factor endowments of cities and communities, conduct thorough counselling and construction for 4-5 years, and build international cooperation platforms and think tanks to fully improve the international exchanges and collaboration capability of cities, to help create economic, safe, healthy, resilient and efficient sustainable cities and communities and to become demonstration models of promotional significance worldwide.
